Teaching Method: Offline. < - This course serves as an introduction to the field of intercultural communication, the study of communication processes within and across different cultures and social groups. < - The course aims to develop English-major students' understanding of the key theories, concepts, approaches and practices of intercultural communication in the contemporary world. < - Issues covered in the course include intercultural communication as embodied in culture, communication, identity; power, stereotyping, and prejudice; verbal, nonverbal, and rhetorical communication; intercultural competence and conflict, intercultural communication in politics, and intercultural communication in organizations. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to reflect critically on the ways these issues relate to their personal experiences of cultural differences and communication behaviours. < - They will be able to apply these theories and practices in case studies with a view to identifying effective communicative strategies in intercultural interactions. < - This course provides English-major students with the opportunity to learn the theoretical foundations of the discipline as well as practical knowledge and skills to help them become effective and ethical communicator across multiple cultural contexts. >
