Objectives: The goal of this course is to assist students in methodically learning the fundamentals of morphology including morphemes, allomorphs, and morphological processes. The course equips the students with the knowledge and skills to analyze word structures. After the course, students will apply key theoretical frameworks of morphology (such as Lexical Morphology, Distributed Morphology) to analyze linguistic data. They also explore how morphological processes interact with syntax, focusing on word formation and sentence structure. Description: This course provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of morphology and its crucial role in the study of linguistics. Students will explore the functions of words, dictionaries, and the mental lexicon in morphological analysis, gaining insight into familiar processes of lexeme formation, such as derivation and compounding, and understanding how new words are created. Furthermore, it addresses the fundamental relationship between morphology and syntax, illustrating how morphological processes can influence phonological forms. Lastly, students will engage with the basic concepts of different morphological theories, enriching their understanding of the field.
