A- Listening: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to - Listen to categorize information (U6) - Listen to understand vocabulary from context (U8) - Listen to lectures for similarities and differences (U5), for supporting statements (U5), for structure signals that connect ideas via a lecture (U7), and for note taking (U8), to understand cause and effect relationships (U6) and to interpret the speaker's attitude via a podcast (U9) - Listen to a presentation for organization cues to distinguish facts and opinions (U4) - Listen to a podcast and use prior knowledge to predict the content of a presentation (U7) - - Listen to a conversation for problems and (U10) B- Speaking: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to - Ask to clarify or confirm ideas to make sure they understand the ideas correctly (U6) - Contribute additional information to a discussion (U7) - Make repairs when making mistakes in speech (U8) - Field questions during a discussion (U9) - Describe unknown words (U10) - Pronounce correctly weak forms of ‘that’ and ‘as’ ( U8) - Know and use intonation patterns in questions and to express feelings and attitudes (U6, U7 and U10) - Stress correctly to express the right meanings and to emphasize important information (U9) - Discuss the result of an experiment, research findings and applications, and water issues (U6 and U7) - Present the pros and cons of an invention; about a city, a plan for a public space, future problems and personal and community values. (U5, U7, U8, U9)
