Teaching Methodology

Teaching Methodology is aimed to help teachers-to-be develop practical skills in teaching English as a foreign language. It concentrates on methods and techniques which do not require lengthy preparation of material, elaborate use of aids or equipment, or complex forms of classroom organization. The course is also designed to encourage an active style of teacher training with teachers-to-be participating as fully as possible. Using the course on a training session will involve three main kinds of activity: demonstration, discussion, and pair/group work. This course is designed to provide a systematic introduction to and a thorough instructions on effective teaching methodology. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: LO1. *Understand the basics of teaching and the roles of teachers; *understand the nature of student-centered classrooms; *understand the essence of individual, pair and group work; *handle basic teaching situations inside classroom; *identify the 3-stage process of a teaching session. LO2. *Identify the stages of teaching vocabulary; *conduct vocabulary teaching appropriately and effectively. LO3. *Identify the stages of teaching grammar; *conduct grammar teaching appropriately and effectively. LO4. *Identify the stages of teaching pronunciation; *conduct pronunciation teaching appropriately and effectively. LO5. *Identify the stages of teaching reading; *conduct reading teaching appropriately and effectively. LO6. *Identify the stages of teaching listening; *conduct listening teaching appropriately and effectively. LO7: *Identify the stages of teaching speaking; *conduct speaking teaching appropriately and effectively. LO8: *Identify the stages of teaching writing; *conduct writing teaching appropriately and effectively. LO9: *Correct learners’ errors and give feedback appropriately. LO10: *Self-evaluate their teaching.
