This course provides students with knowledge of visual arts principles By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Understand basic design and visual rules to lay out the composition of art works 2. Analyze, evaluate the effect of design elements in each composition 4. Understand and apply 5 rules of design principles on contemporary artworks (Unity & Harmony, Balance, Scale & Proportion, Contrast & Emphasis, Rhythm) 4. Define the beauty of nature and analyze how it inspires designers to art works 5. Apply visual principles in doing excersises and making art works during career 6. Use drawing tools more effectively with both hand drawing and digital artworks. 6. Plan and organize visual products in the most effective way

1. Class attendance is strongly encouraged. Attend more than 80% of class hours in order to be accepted to the final examination 2. Actively participate in class activities 3. Fulfill tasks given by instructor after class 4. Use their own laptop in class only for learning purpose 5. Read the textbook in advance 6. Access the course website (http://cms.fpt.edu.vn) for up-to-date information and material of the course, for online supports from teachers and other students and for practicing and assessment.

Material facilties prepared by the university: a) For each student - 01 rubber board, size 40x60cm b) For studio: - Movable tables and chairs which can be easy to clean - 01 storage shelf for students' art works and tools, size 150cm x 50cm x 120cm - 01 Projector 'Individual tools prepared by students: - 1 folder (size A2) - Paper (size A2, A3, A4) - Wooden board 40x60cm - Color, pencil, eraser, brushes - Ruler, a pair of compasses, scissors, paper sticking-plaster - 1 small bucket (around 20cm of diameter) for water storage
