The course is intended to introduce the fundamental concepts of integrated circuit (IC) design, with an emphasis on CMOS-based digital IC design at the introductory level. The course covers the historical development and role of ICs in modern electronic systems; basic NMOS and CMOS integrated circuit technologies; MOS transistor structure and operating principles; static and dynamic behavior of basic CMOS circuits; fundamental performance metrics such as delay, power consumption, noise margin, and area; and the relationship between device characteristics and circuit-level performance. In addition, the course introduces the IC design flow, including logic-level description, transistor-level circuit design, layout concepts, parasitic effects, and basic verification through simulation. Students are exposed to computer-aided design (CAD) tools for circuit modeling and simulation, as well as introductory concepts of testing and design verification.
