Mô tả
The first part of this course provides: the theory related to the function of pictograms; the methodology to create a pictogram then a family of icons; and the ability to plan a project from concept development to applying icons across different media. The second part focuses on learning how to design a pattern by understanding its anatomy and experimenting with various design techniques. Methodologies for creating patterns are explored through research and creative exploration. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to explore emerging AI tools as optional supportive resources—such as using AI to generate visual references, simulate form variations, or test icon applications across different platforms. Students must ensure that AI use does not replace core design processes like conceptual sketching, structural planning, or creative decision-making. Any use of AI must be clearly documented with the tool’s name, purpose, and stage of use in accompanying reports or project notes. The course provides knowledge about the history of development, the role, and the application of pictograms in graphic design. It offers techniques for designing individual icons and icon systems, along with skills for managing and applying icon systems across multiple platforms. It provides knowledge about the development and application of patterns at each stage, including current design trends and usage in modern graphic design. It offers a structured approach to researching, shaping, and developing patterns. It provides techniques for the flexible application of patterns on different objects and formats. Additionally, students may enhance their final presentations through AI-assisted visualizations or animation mockups, as long as they are supplementary and not substitutes for the hand-designed core deliverables.

Lưu ý
Do not use AI to fully replace design thinking or hand-drawing. Final products must reflect individual thinking processes and demonstrate form-making skills. Clearly cite any AI tools used in the report, including the tool’s name, its role, and the stage in which it was applied. Do not submit works entirely generated by AI, such as icons, patterns, or animations, without accompanying sketches and original work created by the student. AI is encouraged to be used in a supporting role only—for example, to search for reference materials, simulate models for study, or enhance visual presentation. Students may receive point deductions or be rated poorly if: They are dishonest in reporting AI usage; They copy ideas from AI tools without further developing or personalizing them; They overuse AI to cover up a lack of personal creative investment.
